Curriculum Statement 


At St. Peter’s Catholic First School (Academy) we aim to provide the children with a curriculum which is broad, well balanced and above all stimulates children to learn.  In addition to acquiring knowledge and skills we aim to help children grow in confidence and maturity so that they enter Middle School and later adulthood with the ability to pursue wholeheartedly, academic, social and cultural activities.


At St. Peter’s the Foundation Stage Framework is used in the Early Years to ensure that every child receives the best possible start in life and support that enables them to fulfil their potential.  We promote teaching and learning to ensure that children are ready and are given the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school life.


From Year 1 through to Year 4 we deliver a curriculum that meets the National Curriculum requirements issued by the DfE.  The National Curriculum is comprised of core subjects, English, Maths and Science, and foundation subjects, History, Geography, Design and Technology, Art and Design, Music, Physical Education (PE), Computing and Modern Foreign Language (KS2).


At St. Peter’s we place an emphasis on the teaching of English and maths and we use these subjects to underpin our curriculum.  Children are actively involved in shaping the topic based curriculum, which is at the heart of our sequence of learning.
