Intent

Our curriculum is designed to give all learners the knowledge and skills that they need to become the computational thinkers of the future. We want our children to develop their computing knowledge and creativity to help them understand and change the world around them. The planning and sequencing of our curriculum will enable pupils to build on previous learning and enable children to know more, remember more and do more.

As a Catholic school, the teachings of the gospels are at the heart of everything we do. This leads our Computing curriculum to be rooted in love for one another and teaches our children to use technology safely and respectfully, demonstrating responsibility of themselves and others through their use of information technology.

We provide opportunities for all children to:

  • Meet the requirements of the national curriculum programmes of study for computing.
  • Use computing as a tool to enhance learning throughout the curriculum.
  • To respond to new developments in technology.
  • To equip pupils with the confidence and capability to use computing throughout their later life.
  • To enhance learning in other areas of the curriculum using computing.
  • To develop the understanding of how to use computing safely and responsibly.

How to Help your Child’s Computing skills at home

We are aware that our children at St Peter’s use technology at home, whether that is playing games on their tablets, games consoles or taking part in home learning challenges on EdShed.

Below are some ideas of how you can support your child in learning key Computing skills such as typing, using a mouse effectively and even coding.

Mouse Skills

Although we are using touch screen tablets and screens more and more, mouse skills are still an important skill for children to learn. Check out the games below to practise your mouse skills at home!
