Olympian, Daniel Caines comes to St. Peter’s

On Monday 27th June, St Peter’s Catholic First School (Academy) were getting ready to celebrate the Rio Olympics. We were joined by a Youth Sport Trust Athlete Mentor, Daniel Caines who is one of Great Britain’s top runners over 400m. Now retired, he enjoyed a highly successful career in which he was World Commonwealth, European and Europa Cup Champion in the 400m and 4x400m relay, representing Great Britain at two Olympic Games.  Daniel led an inspirational assembly, to the whole school, all about his life and his achievements. He spoke to the children about keeping positive, always smiling and persevering in following your dreams today and not waiting until tomorrow. All year groups then worked alongside Daniel in sporting activities and they all had a chance to have a photograph with him.  ” The children had a great day and thoroughly enjoyed their fitness session with him” said Sarah Tilsley, PE Co-ordinator
