Modern Foreign Language

Subject Leader – Mrs Carly Kesterton

At St Peter’s, our vision for MFL is that children will develop their language learning skills, enabling them to become all-round global citizens.

Learning another language gives children the valuable opportunity to develop positive attitudes to and respect for languages and cultures other than their own.  We aim to foster pupils’ curiosity, encourage them to be open-minded and adventurous in all aspects of their learning and deepen their understanding of both the world around them and their own language.

Our Curriculum aims to:

  • To develop pupil language communication and literacy skills.
  • To develop linguistic competence and extend knowledge of how language works and to explore the differences and similarities between languages.
  • To enhance pupil awareness of the multilingual and multicultural world and introduce an international dimension to their learning.
  • To provide a medium for cross-curricular links and the reinforcement of knowledge, skills and understanding developed in other subjects.

Autumn Term

Previously the children in Year 3 have been introduced to two of our favourite little dickie birds Fifi and Blanche. They helped us learn a very special greetings song. We have been learning to count to ten using our new language and learning to ask our friends how old they are.

Below are some useful websites, resources and apps which can be used to support children’s language learning. However the following list is not exhaustive.
