Under 9s Catholic Schools Netball Tournament

On Thursday some of our Year 4 children represented St Peter's at the Under 9's Catholic Schools Netball Tournament in Worcester. Thank you to Mrs. Reed who trained and accompanied the team and to Mr. Pinnock who organised our participation.

Mr. Pinnock has written: “The team showed enthusiasm and super teamwork during all our matches to finish sixth overall, narrowly missing out on a place in the semi- finals by a single point! Well done everyone!” Yesterday we were also visited by James Carter, an award-winning Poet. A big thankyou to Mrs. Williams who organised the day and to all the staff and children who all participated enthusiastically. James commented on what a lovely school St. Peter’s is and how welcome everyone had made him. Mrs. Williams has written: James began the morning with an interactive assembly in which the children joined in with reciting poems, whilst he played his ukulele and melodica. Our Reception children were then treated to a ‘Rhyme and Riddle’ session. They were very excited to think of the missing words in the poems by trying different rhyming words. Year One worked together to write a fantastic poem about ‘Being Happy’ focusing their work on similes. Years Two and Three produced What am I? riddle poems and we all had great fun guessing which animal they were describing. Finally, Year Four created beautiful poems for the people they love. They were given the starting lines of ‘These are the gifts that I would if I could, give to you . . .’ I was amazed at the children’s thoughts and ideas and yes, I did have tears in my eyes when I heard them read aloud. The day was a huge success and I think we have several aspiring poets to watch out for in the future.

Well done everyone! Have a lovely weekend.

Kind regards, Mrs. Clubley
